Situated in a malaria free area just one hour's drive from the South African coastal city of Port Elizabeth, the magnificently diverse Addo Elephant Park offers a wide variety of game viewing, outdoor adventure, accommodation and cultural experiences. Oudtshoorn is home of the flightless bird, the ostrich. Around 1870 ostrich feathers became a tremendously sought after fashion item in Europe and Oudtshoorn was transformed to a very wealthy town! After a sudden slump in the industry between 1885 and 1902, the second and best "feather boom" started between 1902 and 1914 and this is when Oudtshoorn's famously opulent "feather palaces" were built".
